Student slaps mother several times in argument over money

A boy insults a woman before repeatedly slapping her in a video lasting more than two minutes that has gone viral.

During the physical abuse, the woman, who later identifies herself as the boy’s mother, sits on the floor of her house without defending herself.

The incident appears to be above the child’s allowance of $ 100.

When the mother says she can’t give him anymore and tries to reason with him, the boy, who is wearing a high school uniform, insults her in Hokkien and slaps her several times.

The video was initially uploaded to TikTok, but was removed for violating the app’s policies.

Since then, it has been uploaded to other social media platforms, including Facebook. As of 8pm yesterday, it had 60,000 views.

According to the timestamp of the video, the incident occurred around 9.20pm on Tuesday of last week.

Later in the footage, which appears to be from a security camera on the floor, she yells at him, “Slap! Slap!”

He quickly slaps her again. Pointing at it with his finger, he says, “I’ll tell you how many times.”

The woman responds, “So how do you treat Mom?”

MISBEHAVIOR

A police spokesman confirmed that a report had been submitted and that investigations are ongoing.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Social and Family Development said it was assessing whether the family needs assistance.

When the video was shown to her, clinical psychologist Carol Balhetchet said the boy appears to be used to getting away with his bad behavior.

“I’m not sure why the woman allows the child to abuse her, but if she continues to allow it, it will only get worse as he advances into adulthood,” she said.

“In general, it is not normal, but I have seen similar cases in which children bully their parents and, in general, from a very young age the child gets away with it.”

Dr. Balhetchet said that some parents don’t know how to set limits and say no to their children. They think they are doing this out of love, but such indulgences can be harmful, he emphasized.

“Parents should be able to say no to their children from three to five years old. They should be able to parent by being firm without being cruel.”

A former tenant who lived in the unit with the family told Chinese night newspaper Lianhe Wanbao that she was shocked when she saw the video.

The woman, who wanted to be known only as 38-year-old Ms. Liu, said the boy’s parents were 40 years old and that the mother often adored her son and bought him gifts such as shoes.

“The family of three often eat at the same table and I have never seen them fight,” he said.

“The boy is usually very calm and polite. How could he have hit his mother?”

A user, who is believed to be the child, posted yesterday on Instagram that his family situation was bad since he and his parents are “like strangers” who “do not even speak.”

She said the argument started when her mother complained to her stepbrother that he had demanded $ 100 from her when the money was supposed to be her allowance.

He claimed his mother yelled at him after he spoke “KIND” to her and “things got worse.”

Admitting it was his fault, he said he and his mother discussed it later.

Condemning the boy’s actions, many netizens asked the authorities to intervene.

Others commented on his upbringing and questioned how his parents had raised him.

Some users, who appeared to be parents, said they would never allow their children to behave that way.

Facebook user Lim Carol said, “If it’s my son, I’ll make sure they send him to jail.”

CAST TRIAL

Dr. Balhetchet, however, cautioned against the speed with which he is judging the family.

“We are just spectators who only superficially see what is happening,” he said.

“There are a lot of possibilities why the woman and the adolescent behaved that way and unless we are in that family we really don’t know what happened.”

When contacted, the principal of the boy’s school said he could not comment as police were investigating the case.

However, citizen journalism portal Stomp reported that the TikTok video was accompanied by a screenshot of what appears to be an email from the director.

In the screenshot seen by Stomp, the principal said the school was aware of the matter and is investigating it.

Stomp quoted the principal as saying: “We are in contact with the boy and his parents.

“The boy regrets what he had done and the school is working with him, his parents and the police to solve his family problems.”
