SINGAPORE: A 20-year-old student admitted in court on Friday (February 19) that he sexually abused a schoolmate during a sleepover and filmed another man showering in the bathroom of an on-campus gym.

The defendant, who cannot be identified as he could identify the victims, pleaded guilty to one count of voyeurism and one count of sexual abuse.

The court heard that the defendants met the first victim in 2017 as they were in the same co-curricular group at school.

On August 27, 2019, the victim spent the night at the defendant’s home, as they had a nearby school camp the next day.

They slept in the same bed and when the defendant woke up in the morning, he opened the victim’s pants and tried to take a picture with his phone, but could not get a clear picture.

He then sexually abused the victim several times. The victim filed a police report in July 2020.

The defendant targeted his second victim in January 2020, while studying at a polytechnic.

Court documents say the victim was showering in a gym on campus, when the defendant extended his phone toward the cubicle.

The victim saw the device and yelled “huh.” He opened the door to see a man emerge from the cubicle next to hers and flee to another cubicle.

By the time the victim dressed and left, the defendant had run out of the bathroom. The victim reported the matter at the gym counter.

Investigations revealed that the defendant had made similar recordings before, but had deleted all of them. He recorded those videos “because he would be excited at the time of the recording, which helped improve his mood,” court documents said.

The judge requested a parole suitability report and postponed sentencing until next week.

For voyeurism, he could be jailed for up to two years, fined, or both. For sexual abuse, you could be jailed for up to two years, fined, punished, or receive a combination of these penalties.
