Ms. Parti Liyani was charged with stealing from Mr. Liew Mun Leong a $ 1,000 Pioneer DVD player and two Longchamp bags worth approximately $ 200 each.
In her defense, Ms Parti said that in 2012 or 2013, Liew’s wife, Madame Ng Lai Peng, wanted to throw away the DVD player because it was broken, but agreed to let her take it back to Indonesia for repair.
Ms Ng said in court, however, that the DVD player was not broken. At trial, it was shown that the device could play video digitally stored on the hard drive. However, a demonstration on appeal showed that when a DVD was inserted into the player, the error message “disc could not be initialized” was displayed.

2nd charge: the judge observes a serious risk of contamination of the evidence
Most of the items that Ms. Parti Liyani was accused of stealing allegedly belonged to Mr. Karl Liew.
These included more than 100 items of clothing, two purses, bedding, kitchen utensils, a damaged luxury watch, and two iPhone 4 phones.
At the end of the trial, the district judge withdrew the wallets, a Gucci and a Braun Buffel, and some women’s clothing from the office, as there were doubts as to whether they were his.

3rd count: both daughter’s watches were fake
Parti Liyani was charged with stealing two watches, various fashion accessories, including rings and earrings, and a pair of Gucci sunglasses from Liew Mun Leong’s daughter, Cheng May.
Ms. Parti said that she found the watches in Ms. Liew’s garbage can.
They were forged; one, a “Vacheron Constantin”, had been purchased from a Shanghai street vendor in the 2000s, while the other was a Swatch which, according to Ms Parti, she found in 2012.

Fourth count: Prada bag was frayed, Gucci sunglasses were tinted red
Parti Liyani was charged with stealing a Prada handbag worth $ 1,000 and a pair of Gucci sunglasses worth $ 500 from Karl Liew’s wife, Madame Heather Lim.
Ms. Lim stated that none of the items had been disposed of, although none were in good condition.
She said she used the bag, which had become frayed, when she went to the gym and that the sunglasses were stained red as a result of rubbing against her bag.
However, Judge Chan Seng Onn said that the condition of the items supported the defense’s argument that they had been discarded.
