SINGAPORE: Three mattress suppliers said on Wednesday (Nov. 4) that they will honor orders placed by Robinsons customers, despite receiving no payments from the retailer.
Customers had reported delays or cancellations in the delivery of the mattresses they purchased after Robinsons announced that it is closing its last two department stores and is in the process of being liquidated.
On Wednesday, mattress suppliers Sealy, Simmons and King Koil said they will honor and fulfill orders from customers who have paid Robinsons in full.
“We will honor requests from customers who have made full payments to Robinsons, although Robinsons may not pay us,” King Koil said.
For customers who have made partial payments or deposits, he said it will absorb the amounts that have been paid, adding that no transportation charges or other hidden charges will be imposed.
Simmons made a similar statement on his Facebook page, saying: “For Robinsons customers who have made deposits or partial payments, Simmons will absorb the deposit or partial payment made to Robinsons.
“Simmons will also contact each customer as soon as possible to advise them on their balance payments and complete their order as soon as possible.”

Sealy noted the impact of the Robinsons closure on customers.
“This has resulted in hundreds of valued Sealy customers paying Robinsons in full for their Sealy beds, and Sealy was not paid for supplying and delivering them,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Although Robinsons did not pay Sealy, Sealy will fulfill orders placed by customers who have paid Robinsons in full for Sealy beds and will supply and deliver those orders to valued Sealy customers.”
Sealy said there will be a “modest S $ 50 shipping fee” and will contact each customer “shortly” to arrange delivery.
“Sealy will also contact customers who have paid deposits or made a partial payment to Robinsons for Sealy beds to make further fulfillment arrangements for their orders,” the company said.

Following Sealy’s statement, Robinsons said on Facebook that an agreement had been reached between the liquidators and Sealy to fulfill orders placed by customers.
“We are in discussions with other vendors and will continue to provide updates to affected customers as they become available,” Robinsons said.
Robinsons announced on October 30 that it will close its last two stores here at The Heeren and Raffles City Shopping Center, citing weak consumer demand.
Just two months earlier, he closed his seven-year-old 85,000-square-foot store in the Jem Mall.
