Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says it is “easy” to have an opinion on who should play for Manchester United, without taking into account the “behind the scenes” factors that affect those decisions.

Solskjaer faced more questions about his team selection after his United team 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Saturday.

Paul Pogba started on the bench and, more tellingly, Donny van de Beek couldn’t see him. Indeed, the Dutchman has struggled to gain playing time since moving from Ajax in July.

However, Solskjaer has responded by stating that his team’s tough schedule will give all players plenty of playing time.

“It’s going to be relentless,” said the manager. MUTV when asked about his selection decisions.

“It’s easy to be a fan, or to be you and just sit back and say ‘he should be playing, he should be playing,’ but you don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.

“They are tired, they have played many international matches now, every three days. And after PSG the last time [in 2019] we had a great dip.

“This time we started with a good performance, we have a point and it is something to build on.”

Solskjaer spoke in depth about the Van de Beek situation after the draw at Old Trafford, insisting for the second time in two days that the midfielder would get minutes.

However, United legends Patrice Evra and Gary Neville have revealed their doubts about the player.

In fact, Evra feels that her former team wasted money bringing in a player they “don’t need.” Meanwhile, Neville admitted that Solskjaer’s approach to the player is a “mystery.”

In any case, Solskjaer is not wrong with his team’s busy schedule. Although, United’s other Premier League rivals face similar problems.

The Red Devils will face RB Leipzig in Champions League action on Wednesday. Chelsea, meanwhile, also play in Europe on the same day against Krasnodar.

Liverpool, Manchester City, Tottenham and Arsenal also face the same situation.
