SINGAPORE – A Singapore Management University (SMU) student allegedly targeted the same woman 19 times, secretly filming videos of her between May 28 and September 3 last year.

The court documents did not indicate the locations where the student, Tien Kiat Chong, is said to have committed the crimes using his mobile phone.

The 24-year-old Singaporean, whose case was heard in district court on Oct. 14, faces one charge of insulting a woman’s modesty and another charge under the Movies Act for allegedly possessing 37 obscene videos.

The obscene videos were said to have been found on him around 9 p.m. on September 4 of last year while he was at the Sengkang MRT station.

In a statement to The Straits Times on Monday (October 19), SMU confirmed that Tien is still a student at the university.

A spokesperson said: “The university takes a firm position against any form of misconduct. Students who violate SMU’s code of student conduct face a series of penalties, including suspension and expulsion.

“As the case is currently in court, it would not be appropriate for SMU to comment further.”

Tien is the latest college student to be taken to court for similar crimes.

In January, 18-year-old former Nanyang Technological University (NTU) student Han Shiyu was sentenced to a brief two-week arrest warrant for illegally entering a women’s bathroom at a residence to film a student. who was in the shower.

Those who receive a brief arrest warrant are put behind bars for a short time, but will have no criminal record after their release.

NTU expelled the Chinese citizen shortly after he committed the crime in August last year.

Last month, 27-year-old National University of Singapore student Joel Rasis Ismail pleaded guilty to three counts of insulting a woman’s modesty and one of breaking and entering.

The Singaporean admitted to taking voyeuristic videos, including those of women in showers on campus last year.

Joel is expected to be sentenced Tuesday.

Tien’s case was postponed until November 5.

For each count of insulting a woman’s modesty, an offender can be jailed for up to one year and fined.
