Six-part buses seized by LTA, drivers under investigation

The Land Transportation Authority (LTA) seized six illegally modified party buses over the past two months, and six drivers are under investigation.

In a Facebook post yesterday, LTA said it had received comments that some party buses were offering their services in popular nightlife areas, such as Boat Quay and Clarke Quay, after phase two of Singapore’s reopening began on 19th of June.

Typically for groups of partygoers, these party buses potentially thwart ongoing efforts to limit Covid-19 transmission during what has been a crucial period, LTA said.

Decorated with stylish seats and strobes, the major modifications made to these buses are not only illegal, but could endanger the safety of passengers, LTA added.

It said: “Bus passengers who are not properly seated (or standing without holding onto a stable pole or handrail) will be at risk of serious injury in the event of an accident or emergency braking situation.”

The LTA said that several operations were organized in July and August against these irresponsible service providers and that six drivers were caught for illegally modifying their buses.

Other crimes included driving without a valid vocational bus driver’s license, insurance coverage, and road tax.

Investigations are ongoing.

LTA added: “We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to be responsible and continue to adhere to safe management measures.”
