SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 51 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Saturday (Aug 29), bringing the national total to 56,717.

There is a new infection in the community involving a holder of a work pass.

Three are imported cases, all of which had received a stay-at-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.

More details will be released later in the day, the ministry added.

The Health Ministry had announced on Friday that of the 80 new cases reported in the dormitories of foreign workers, 58 were at Sungei Tengah Lodge. The bedroom was reported as a new COVID-19 cluster on August 22, about a month after it was declared “completely free” of the coronavirus.

SHIP THAT CARRIED INFECTED MARINES TO LEAVE SINGAPORE

Earlier on Saturday, the Singapore Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) said the ship carrying crew members who later tested positive for COVID-19 is expected to leave Singapore once the relief crew members are on board.

The ship arrived in Singapore from India for repairs and refueling on August 8. Four days later, a sailor on the ship tested positive for COVID-19. Since then, at least 15 crew members have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

According to an MPA spokesperson, repair work on the ship has been completed and the ship’s agent is making arrangements for members of the relief crew.

“This ship will be thoroughly disinfected before the relief crew members board the ship. The ship is expected to depart Singapore once the relief crew members are on board,” the MPA said.
