SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 34 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Saturday (September 5), including three in the community.
This brings the total number of cases in the country to 56,982.
Community infections comprise one Singaporean and two work pass holders, according to a preliminary update from the Ministry of Health (MINSA).
There were also two imported cases, all of which were placed on a stay-at-home notice when they arrived in Singapore.
More updates will be announced later in the day, the Health Ministry said.
Speaking in Parliament on Friday, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said that once COVID-19 vaccines are available, Singapore’s focus will be to protect those most at risk or those who may be most likely to be exposed to infection.
The government is “closely monitoring” global progress in COVID-19 vaccine development, Mr. Gan said, adding that authorities are taking “active steps” to ensure Singapore has “timely access” to an effective vaccine. and safe.
Singapore has seen several new clusters of COVID-19 in bedrooms that were previously cleared of the disease in recent weeks.
On Friday, the Health Ministry identified a new group in the Blue Stars Dormitory at 3 Kian Teck Lane, with 33 previously linked confirmed cases. The bedroom was declared COVID-19 free on August 8.
