SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 27 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Wednesday (September 16), including two in the community and two imported infections.

A 59-year-old Singaporean man previously listed as a COVID-19 case was removed from the case count on Wednesday. Case 57107 tested negative twice after an initial positive result, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

The man was previously classified as an imported case on September 5 after testing positive for COVID-19 a day earlier. He returned from Australia on August 25 and was put on notice to stay home upon arrival.

The Health Ministry said Wednesday that investigations by laboratory experts and a panel of experts assessed that the result of its first test was a false positive.

“All the necessary public health actions had been taken before and neither the case nor its contacts had been exposed to the risk of infection due to the initial classification,” the ministry said.

This brings the adjusted case count in Singapore to 57.514.

ALL NEW ASYMPTOMATIC CASES

All of the new cases reported Wednesday were asymptomatic and detected through screening and surveillance.

The two community infections are work permit holders that were detected from routine tests listed by the Ministry of Health of workers in the construction, marine and process sectors living outside of dormitories.

One is linked to a previous case, while the other is not currently linked.

UPDATED MAP: All places that community COVID-19 cases visited while infectious

The Health Ministry said the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of two cases per day in the previous week to an average of one per day in the past week.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of one case per day in the previous week to an average of less than one per day in the last week.

The two imported cases reported Wednesday had traveled from India. They are a Singaporean who returned on September 12 and a long-term visitor pass holder who arrived on September 3.

Both imported cases were placed on stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore and tested while they were serving their period of isolation in specialized facilities.

The Ministry of Health also reported 23 cases living in dormitories. Of these, 17 were previously identified as contacts from previous cases and had already been quarantined to prevent further transmission.

The remaining six cases were detected by surveillance tests.

The Health Ministry said that the serological test results of eight cases have so far been positive, indicating “probably a past infection.”

Twelve more cases have been linked to the group at CDPL Tuas Dormitory, which now has a total of 51 confirmed cases.

Of the new cases reported Wednesday, 85 percent are imported or linked to known cases or groups, while the rest are pending contact tracing.

71 LOWEST PATIENTS

The Health Ministry said 71 more cases have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing Singapore’s total recoveries from COVID-19 to 56,955.

There are 42 patients still in the hospital, most of whom are stable or improving and no one is in the intensive care unit. Another 490 people are isolated and cared for in community facilities.

To date, 27 people have died from complications due to COVID-19.

People’s Park Center and People’s Park Complex were added to the list of public places visited by community cases of COVID-19 during their infectious period.

These two locations join the several shopping centers that were added to the list on Tuesday.

Among those added on Tuesday are Hougang Mall, IKEA Tampines, IMM, Junction 8, NEX, Plaza Singapura, Tiong Bahru Plaza and HarbourFront Center, as well as Lau Pa Sat and a Burger King store in Terminal 1 of Changi Airport. .
