SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 14 new COVID-19 infections as of noon on Saturday (October 24), including two community cases, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in its daily preliminary update.

Of the 14, 12 were asymptomatic and were detected by screening and surveillance. The remaining two showed symptoms of coronavirus.

TWO COMMUNITY CASES

The two community cases were dissociated.One of them is a 64-year-old permanent resident (PR) who is a security officer at Terminal 3 of Changi Airport. Before admission to the hospital, he had gone to work and had visited the Singapore National Eye Center for the treatment of an unrelated person. medical condition.

The other case is a 48-year-old Singaporean national who works as a temperature examiner and swab assistant at Raffles Medical in Changi Airport Terminal 3, and had gone to work prior to admission to the hospital.

Both community cases were detected when an acute respiratory infection was diagnosed in the first medical consultation.

“Although both cases work in Terminal 3 of Changi Airport, they had not interacted with each other and epidemiological investigations so far have not established any link between them.

“As a precautionary measure, all people working at Changi Airport Terminal 3 who may have contact with travelers will be screened for COVID-19,” the Health Ministry said.

“As the volume of travel is expected to increase in the coming months, the Ministry of Health has been in talks with the relevant agencies to increase the Routine Testing with lists of front-line personnel working at Changi Airport,” the ministry said, adding that more details will be provided later.

IMPORTED BEDROOM BOXES

11 imported cases were reported on Saturday, who were issued stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

Three of them are Singaporean and one is a permanent resident of Singapore who had returned from India and the Philippines.

Three other imported cases are work permit holders that had arrived from Indonesia and the Philippines.

One case is a student pass holder that had arrived from France. The remaining imported cases are two long-term visit pass holders who had arrived from India and Indonesia, as well as a short-term visit pass holder who was allowed to travel to Singapore from India as his father is a Singapore RP.

Of the new cases, one is a one-bedroom resident, who was detected through the routine tests listed.

Singapore has had 57,965 COVID-19 cases in total.

The Health Ministry said the number of new cases in the community has dropped from four cases in the previous week to three in the last week. The number of unrelated cases in the community has increased from one case in the previous week to three in the last week.

It also included the FairPrice Finest store at Changi Airport Terminal 3 in its list of public places visited by cases in the community during its infectious period.

A total of 12 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities.

In total, 57,844 cases have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged.

There are 53 confirmed cases still in the hospital. Most are stable or improving and none are in the intensive care unit, the Health Ministry said. Forty cases are being isolated and treated in community hospitals. These are those who have mild symptoms or are clinically well, but test positive for COVID-19.

In total, 28 people have died from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

Singapore and Germany announced on Friday that they agreed to establish a reciprocal green lane to allow essential travel for business or official purposes.

Eligible applicants must comply with the COVID-19 prevention and public health measures mutually agreed upon by both countries.

The joint press release also said that the green lane could serve as a model for future similar agreements between Singapore and other European countries.

Singapore has agreed to establish reciprocal green lanes with several countries, including Brunei, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia.
