The planned air travel bubble between Singapore and Hong Kong may begin next month, Republic Minister of Transport Ong Ye Kung said in response to inquiries from The Business Times (BT).
SCMP reported Tuesday that Hong Kong CEO Carrie Lam stated the following, the bubble is expected to be launched in November.
Mr Ong told BT on Wednesday that discussions on the deal “have actually gone well, and we share (Ms Lam’s) assessment”.
The ministry hopes to share the launch date and other implementation details soon, Ong added.
Singapore and Hong Kong announced two weeks ago that they had reached an agreement in principle to establish a bilateral air travel bubble, to reactivate air travel between aviation hubs in a safe manner.
This will allow for travel without quarantine, home notice requirements, or a controlled itinerary.
While there will be no restrictions on the purpose of travel, travelers must have been in Hong Kong or Singapore for a period of 14 days prior to travel.
They will also need to run mutually recognized Covid-19 swab tests and produce a negative result.
In addition, there will be a quota on the number of people who can travel between Singapore and Hong Kong under the bubble, but the quota may increase as operations stabilize.
