A television, refrigerator, and bed are what most people consider necessities in their homes, but one man has been living without such comfort.

While distributing food and ang baos to needy families living in rented flats along Senja Road last Friday (November 6), a group of volunteers met an uncle who lives alone in a Spartan house.

In the photos they shared on Facebook, their belongings can be seen neatly arranged on the floor of their one-bedroom apartment.

“I felt sad for this Indian guy who proudly displays our national flag in his home, but there is no chair, table, television, refrigerator or mattress inside,” wrote Gilbert Goh.

Offers of help soon came, and many netizens wanted to donate furniture and appliances to help the man live more comfortably. One even said that they would help fully furnish the man’s flat.

However, you may not accept these kind offers.

According to Mustsharenews, the uncle told the volunteers that he prefers not to have furniture at home, adding that he sleeps on the floor due to an allergic reaction to the mattresses.

As he doesn’t have many belongings, the man has chosen to keep them in storage boxes for easy access.

When the volunteers visited him again over the weekend, they brought him festive food and snacks.

AsiaOne has contacted the Ministry of Social and Family Development for more information.
