SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MINSA) confirmed 27 new cases of COVID-19 in Singapore as of noon on Wednesday (September 16), bringing the country’s total to 57.514.
The Health Ministry also announced that a previously announced imported case, which tested negative twice after an initial positive test result, has been removed from the tally. Investigations by laboratory experts and a panel of experts evaluated the man’s first test result as a false positive.
All the necessary public health actions had been taken before and not even the case – no. 57,107, nor had their contacts been exposed to the risk of infection due to the initial classification, the ministry said.
Of the new cases on Wednesday, all are asymptomatic and proactively detected, the Health Ministry added.
Of these, two are classified as community cases, another two are imported cases, including a Singaporean who arrived from India, and the remaining 23 cases are foreign workers living in dormitories.
In general, 15% of new cases have no established links.
Both community cases, one unrelated, were detected through the routine tests listed on workers in the construction, marine and process sectors living outside of bedrooms.
MINSA pointed out that the number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of two cases per day in the previous week, to an average of one per day in the last week. Similarly, the number of unrelated cases in the community has also decreased, from an average of one case per day in the previous week to an average of less than one per day in the last week.
Of the imported cases, one is a Singaporean who returned here from India on September 12, while the other is a holder of a long-term visit pass that arrived on September 3.
Both were placed on the 14-day stay-at-home notice upon arrival here and were evaluated while serving their notice at dedicated facilities, the ministry said.
Starting at 12 a.m. On Thursday, Singaporean non-residents, who are not Singaporeans and permanent residents (PR), must test negative for the virus before traveling from India to Singapore.
The move was announced by authorities last week due to the resurgence of COVID-19 infections in India and a significant number of imported cases with recent trips to the country.
6 bedroom cases detected by surveillance tests
Among the 23 cases residing in dormitories, 17 had previously been identified as previous case contacts and were evaluated during quarantine, the Health Ministry said.
The remaining six cases were detected by surveillance tests.
In addition to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, administered by smear, serological tests were also performed to determine whether some of the cases are current or past infections.
“The results of the serological tests of eight cases have been positive so far, indicating a probable past infection,” the Ministry of Health said.
Of Singapore’s COVID-19 count, 54,265, or 94.4 percent, are foreign workers living in dormitories.
About 99% of all cases have recovered
With 71 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Wednesday, 56,955 cases, or 99 percent of the total, have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 42 hospitalized cases are stable or improving, while none are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
A total of 490 patients with mild symptoms or who are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for in community facilities.
In addition to 27 patients who died from complications of COVID-19, another 15 who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four whose deaths were attributed to coronary heart disease. . heart disease.
