SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MINSA) confirmed 13 new cases of COVID-19 in Singapore on Saturday (March 6), bringing the country’s total case count to 60,020.

There is a new case of locally transmitted infection.

“According to our investigations so far, the case is in the community and there are no new cases in the dormitories,” the ministry said.

“In addition, there are 12 imported cases, which had already been placed on the Stay-Home Notice upon arrival in Singapore.”

Overall, the number of new cases in the community has been stable at four cases per week for the past two weeks. The number of unrelated cases in the community has increased from two cases in the previous week to three in the last week.

An unrelated community case

The only community case is that of a 35-year-old Indonesian domestic worker who is currently unrelated. He arrived in Singapore on January 20 and served SHN in a special facility until February 3. His February 2 swab was negative for COVID-19, as did his pre-departure test on January 18 while he was in Indonesia.

She is asymptomatic and was detected when she underwent a coronavirus test prior to departure on March 4 in preparation for her return to Indonesia. Her test result was positive and she was transferred to the National Center for Infectious Diseases.

Another test conducted by the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL) on March 5 came back negative for COVID-19 infection, and his serological test result came back positive, indicating a probable past infection. You are likely shedding tiny bits of RNA from the virus, which are no longer communicable or infectious to others.

“However, as we cannot definitively confirm his date of infection, we will take all necessary public health actions as a precautionary measure, including the quarantine of all his identified close contacts,” the Health Ministry said.

12 imported boxes

Among the 12 imported cases:

  • One is Singaporean and one is a permanent resident who returned from Indonesia and Malaysia.

  • Two are dependent pass holders who came from India

  • One is a holder of a work pass that came from India.

  • Seven are work permit holders who came from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar and the Philippines, of which three are domestic workers.

The holder of the work pass is a 27 year old Indian woman who has not started working yet. He arrived in Singapore on February 8 and served SHN in a special facility until February 22.

His test taken on February 21 was negative for COVID-19. As part of her pre-employment health exam, she was tested for COVID-19 on March 4 even though she is asymptomatic and her test came back positive.

Another test conducted by NPHL on March 5 came back negative for COVID-19 infection, and his serological test result came back positive. He had also tested positive for antigen in India last November.

“Since these indicate a probable past infection, we have classified the case as imported. It is likely that it is shedding tiny fragments of the virus’ RNA, which are no longer transmissible or infectious to others,” the Health Ministry said.

99% of all cases have recovered, 1 in ICU

With nine more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Saturday, 59,879 cases, or 99.8 percent of the total, have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 22 hospitalized cases are stable or improving, with one of them in the intensive care unit.

A total of 90 patients, with mild symptoms or clinically well, but still test positive, are isolated and cared for in community facilities.

In addition to 29 patients who died from complications of COVID-19, another 15 who tested positive for the virus were determined to have died from unrelated causes, including three whose deaths were attributed to a heart attack and another four whose deaths were attributed to disease. coronary. heart disease.

Among the 95 confirmed cases reported between February 28 and March 6, 56 cases were serological test positive, 26 were negative and 13 are pending.
