Singapore and Indonesia agree to launch greenway for essential official and business travelers

SINGAPORE: Singapore and Indonesia have agreed to establish a reciprocal green lane (RGL) to allow cross-border travel for essential commercial and official purposes between the two countries.

Applications for the RGL will open on October 26, and the journey will begin shortly thereafter, the Singapore Foreign Ministry (MFA) said on Monday (October 12).

Applicants eligible for the RGL, also known by Indonesia as the Travel Corridor Agreement (TCA), are Indonesian citizens, as well as citizens and residents of Singapore.

These travelers must comply with the COVID-19 prevention and public health measures mutually agreed upon by both countries, including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) smear tests before departure and after the arrival of health institutions. mutually recognized.

MFA said Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan spoke with his Indonesian counterpart Retno Marsudi by phone, and both ministers reaffirmed the “excellent and long-lasting relations” between Singapore and Indonesia.

They also recalled their discussion in August this year on the importance of strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation to overcome common challenges brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.

This includes resuming essential travel while protecting public health and safety in both countries.

In this context, MFA said that both ministers welcomed the conclusion of the negotiations between Singapore and Indonesia on the RGL.

Operational details regarding the RGL, including procedural requirements, health protocols, and application process, will be announced in due course.
