Passengers traveling with Singapore Airlines and Silkair must bring their own face mask to wear throughout the flight, the airline said in a statement.

The airline joins a number of companies that have made face masks mandatory for passengers on flights recently such as Emirates, Air Canada, and Air France.

The new face mask requirement is in accordance with a directive issued by the Singapore Civil Aviation Authority, the carrier said. Singapore Airlines cabin crew were already wearing masks and gloves during flights.

The carrier also said that passengers must “observe safe distancing measures” when boarding and disembarking from a flight, as well as when queuing to go to the bathroom. The airline added that passengers on flights to Singapore will also undergo a health assessment before boarding the plane, which includes a verbal health statement and temperature controls.

In response to the current Covid-19 crisis, the airline has extended its flight cancellations until the end of June with flights to only 15 destinations.

Meals will be provided on all flights except for flights within Southeast Asia and services to China. Instead, a bag of snacks with water and soft drinks will be provided upon boarding. The carrier said customers who require special meals can request one from a “short list” according to the guidelines of the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

The airline also canceled its hot towel service, eliminated menus and magazines on all flights.
