SINGAPORE – The government has offered Covid-19 vaccines to Singapore Airlines (SIA) staff, in the latest step forward in Singapore’s vaccination exercise.
The airline is believed to be the first in the world to offer its staff the option of getting vaccinated against the coronavirus.
An SIA spokesperson said late Tuesday (January 12) that the vaccine is available to Singapore-based personnel currently undergoing a routine testing program that requires regular testing for the Covid-19 virus.
“Those who are eligible include cabin crew, pilots, airport personnel whose job requires them to interact with passengers, and selected engineering personnel,” the spokesperson said.
“Participation is voluntary and the SIA Group strongly encourages all eligible staff to accept this offer.”
The vaccination exercise will begin on Wednesday in the arrivals hall of Terminal 4 of Changi Airport.
Singapore’s nationwide vaccination campaign began on December 30 last year. Among those who have been vaccinated so far are Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, health workers and officials from the local team.
The country’s top health scientist, Professor Tan Chorh Chuan, has said that Covid-19 vaccination centers, which allow large numbers of people to be vaccinated on a daily basis, will be ready soon. He added that vaccines will also be administered in polyclinics and general medicine clinics.
