SINGAPORE – Singapore Airlines (SIA) will no longer launch flights anywhere.

But members of the public can still experience the airline’s service, albeit on the ground, through three other initiatives that will launch in the coming weeks, the SIA said on Tuesday (September 29).

It consists of a lunch aboard an Airbus A380 jumbo jet, a tour of SIA’s training facilities, and delivery of meals from their first and business class menus.

SIA said it developed these experiences after conducting a market study and review that looked at factors such as environmental implications and financial viability.

He said he had initially considered launching flights to nowhere, but embodied the idea after review.

SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said the new initiatives will allow the airline to engage its fans and customers, even as the number of flights was reduced due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There has been a lot of interest in our customer engagement initiatives over the past few weeks and I would like to thank everyone for their great ideas and suggestions,” he said.

“We are very encouraged and grateful for the enthusiasm and passion that we have seen.”

The Straits Times looks at what customers can expect with the three new initiatives, which can be booked on the KrisShop website. The cost of each option will be announced later.

A380 @ Changi Restaurant

An A380 aircraft parked at Changi Airport will be converted into a restaurant on October 24 and 25. Reservations will begin on October 12. An A380 aircraft typically seats about 470 passengers, but it is unclear how the capacity will be affected by safety. distancing measures.

Diners who book this package will be able to choose the cabin class in which they want to dine.

The menu will include international dishes and a customized Peranakan menu for the temporary restaurant. Each meal will come with two free alcoholic beverages and free flow of other beverages.

Diners will get other benefits like KrisShop discounts and a goodie bag. Those who appear in traditional clothing such as sarong kebaya, cheongsam or sari will receive an additional gift.

SIA said it will take precautions to reduce the risk of spreading the Covid-19 virus. These measures include cleaning and disinfecting the aircraft, limiting group sizes to five, implementing safe spacing, and doing a temperature check.

Both the crew and the diners must wear a face mask at all times when on board, except when eating or drinking.

This visit to the SIA Training Center will take place on November 21, 22, 28 and 29. Reservations will open from November 1.

Visitors will be able to speak with pilots and crew about their training and view SIA flight simulators.

They can also participate in craft activities and buy meals on board.

Those who choose to pay more can even try the flight simulator that pilots use to train, enjoy a wine appreciation session, or attend a grooming workshop led by SIA cabin crew trainers.

Parents can opt for an additional option to send their child on a junior cabin crew experience. Children can dress up in the SIA kebaya sarong uniform, learn customer service skills, and act as cabin crew members in a mock-up of the A380 business class cabin.

Those who miss out on the dining experience aboard a SIA aircraft can choose to recreate it at home, with reservations starting October 5.

The food, created by SIA’s panel of international chefs, is paired with a selection of wine or champagne. Each menu will include SIA’s satay plate.

Comes with a First Class or Business Class amenity kit and instructions on how to heat and place dishes.

Customers can pay more to reserve the services of a private chef who will reheat, prepare and serve the food in their homes.
