SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MINSA) confirmed seven new cases of COVID-19 as of Monday (October 5), bringing the country’s total to 57,819.

All but one of the seven new cases are asymptomatic. All were isolated prior to detection of infection and have established links, the Health Ministry said. None of the new cases are linked to new or existing conglomerates.

Of these, one case is in the community, while five reside in dormitories of foreign workers.

The seventh case, a permanent resident, is imported and was included in the 14-day stay-at-home notice upon arrival from India to Singapore, and was tested while the notice was being delivered at a specialized facility.

The only case from the community, a 15-year-old Indian national, had been identified as a contact for a previously confirmed case who is a member of his household and was quarantined on October 3.

She developed symptoms the next day and was examined and later transferred to a hospital when the test result came back positive the same day.

She is a student at a private school and was in the school for the last time on October 2 before the onset of symptoms, the ministry said.

The Health Ministry added that the five cases residing in dormitories had previously been identified as previous case contacts and had already been quarantined, as well as evaluated during the quarantine. Of Singapore’s COVID-19 count, 54,466, or 94.2 percent, are foreign workers living in dormitories.

The ministry also noted that the number of new cases in the community has increased from an average of less than one case per day in the previous week, to an average of one case in the last week.

He added that the number of unrelated cases in the community has remained stable at an average of less than one case per day in the past two weeks.

99% of all cases have recovered.

With 22 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Monday, 57,597 cases, or 99.6 percent of the total, have fully recovered from the infection.

Most of the 42 hospitalized cases are stable or improving, while none are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
