A Sembawang resident who drew criticism online for leaving raw pork in a common aisle said the meat was intended for a crow.
The problem was first brought to light by a Facebook user, who posted about how his elderly parents had to put up with their “unhygienic and inconsiderate” neighbor at Block 478 Sembawang Drive.
He said the resident, a middle-aged man, had filled the hallway with potted plants and left a “piece of raw pork” on the handrail outside his unit since Thursday (November 12).
According to her, the pork was “making the blood and oil (drip) down to the unit below.”
In response to a query from Stomp, a spokesman for the Sembawang City Council said: “The pork and potted plants were already removed when we visited the unit yesterday morning (November 16).
“The resident apologized and assured us that this will not happen again.”
“Our cleaners have also cleaned and sanitized the handrail so other residents can feel comfortable using it.”
The city council will also continue to monitor the situation and will take appropriate action when necessary, the spokesperson added.
A neighbor, who declined to be identified, told Shin Min Daily News that the resident often filled the hallway with garbage that he collected. However, this was the first time he left meat down the hall.
Uncle Li, 52, later clarified that he was not trying to dry the pig, but had left it on the handrail for a crow to eat.
The animal lover said he had seen a raven perched in a nearby tree. Worried that the bird was hungry, he wanted to feed it.
“I saw people doing that in a coffee shop previously and I wanted to imitate them, but I didn’t expect the crow not to eat the meat,” Uncle Li explained.
Not only did he bring home a snail to raise on Saturday (November 14), but he also took under his wing a dying bird he found on the road on Sunday, hoping to care for it until it recovered.
Regarding the clutter in the hallway, Uncle Li said he is a part-time Guni Karang man. Since you have no strength in your hands, you can only move items to your floor periodically and you had no intention of obstructing the path.
