When Jay, a photographer, saw a family of five at Pasir Ris Park in the early morning of November 16, he didn’t think much of it at first.
The family only began to get his attention when he realized they were holding garbage bags and metal clothespins.
Turns out they had decided to spend Monday morning cleaning up the beach.
“I usually head to Pasir Ris Park every morning around 6 am to capture images of birds and nature,” shared Jay.
“But that day, I was surprised when a family of five came to the beach early in the morning and started picking up trash.
“I started a conversation with the mother and she told me that her family was on the beach the day before and was shocked by the amount of plastic waste and trash that was left in the sand.
“So they decided to come back the next day with garbage bags, gloves and tongs to clean up the beach.
“I was moved and delighted to see the children picking up trash and their parents leading by example.”

Jay told Stomp that this incident really struck a chord for him as he is the father of a two-year-old.
“I decided to share this on social media to inspire others and encourage parents to be a good example for their children,” added Jay.
