Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have been very impressed and will now have no choice but to make Axel Tuanzebe a regular at Manchester United, according to Rio Ferdinand.
Tuanzebe played a starring role when United went to Paris once again and recorded a victory against PSG. Marcus Rashford returned to grab the headlines in a 2-1 win.
The Red Devils produced a magnificent display in all respects to take control of Group H early in the Champions League.
A recovered penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a late goal from Rashford sealed the victory. In between, Anthony Martial had given PSG an unlikely lifeline.
As much as Rashford got the applause, it was Tuanzebe’s display that really caught the eye.
The 22-year-old defender has had to wait patiently for his opportunity. However, in Paris he really came of age when he defeated one of the most feared fronts in the world.
In fact, Tuanzebe’s pace, athleticism, and awareness really caught Ferdinand’s attention. Now he believes that the England U21 cap should be United’s first choice.
“This is where United have struggled in the last six to 12 months, chasing players through those channels,” Ferdinand said. BT sport.
“They can’t stay with them and open all four rear, three rear. But here, he was smelling danger.
“Ole just said that they are two of the best forwards in the world. He drowned out the danger on many occasions and performances like this must be rewarded at a time of injury.
“Once again, the first game in 10 months and coming in and playing like that from the cold, you just deserve to be rewarded.”
Owen Hargreaves agreed, noting that Tuanzebe had proven his worth by winning his battles with Mbappé.
“He’s not slipping off the side, if you have so much athleticism in these positions,” said the former United midfielder.
Reflecting on how this victory without fans during a pandemic compared to his last victory in ParisSolskjaer said BT sport: “It’s a different feeling than the last time we won here, it’s at the beginning of the group stage but we have beaten a fantastic team.
“The last time it was a knockout and it was euphoric, this is sterile without the fans but it’s still excellent and we deserved to win.
“When you go to a team like this against Neymar and Mbappé you have to defend well and your goalkeeper will have to make stops.
“Axel Tuanzebe is a great defender and his first game in 10 months was testament to the quality he has.
“Bruno missed two penalties in a row but he will not stop taking them, he showed concentration and character.
“We know we need 10 points to pass, so next week’s game is very important. There are so many games. “

Man Utd’s intensity was key – Rashford
Match winner Rashford He highlighted the magnificent displays from full-backs Alex Telles and Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and pointed to the increased intensity of the team as a deciding factor.
He said BT sport: “Of course it’s a nice feeling. More importantly, we won the game. We are in a strong position now in the group, but it is the first game. The concentration levels that we show today we have to carry forward to the next game.
“For me, both were opportunities to win the game. As a striker, at the end of the game, that’s the mentality. You may only get one shot. It gives us the three points.
“It’s a good performance, but also one in which we have a lot to build on. I always believe in the team.
“As players, it is important to believe in the system that the coach chooses to play. We did it fantastically.
“It was tough, but we kept the intensity high. We had to defend really deep at times. They have some amazing players.
“In the low block it can be difficult, but the guys on the sides, the wings, defended incredibly. When we defend like that man to man, we can do it really well.
“Each game requires different tactics and a different performance, but what must remain the same is the intensity. Intensity was key for us tonight. We keep moving forward for 90 minutes. We are very happy today ”.
