SINGAPORE: Suntory Beverage & Food Singapore announced a voluntary recall on Wednesday (November 11) for 1-liter and 2-liter bottles of Ribena Blackcurrant Fruit Cordial after receiving feedback on changes to the appearance and taste of the product ahead of the dates. expiration dates indicated.
According to preliminary findings, a “small percentage” of Ribena Blackcurrant Fruit Cordial bottles with expiration dates between August 17, 2021 and October 16, 2021 are affected.
“In response to these comments, we are conducting an investigation along the production and distribution chain of Ribena blackcurrant fruit cordial bottles to determine the root cause,” the company said in a statement.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the company said it has made a “proactive decision” to recall the bottles as a “precautionary measure.”
“Although not all bottles in affected batches are affected, consumers are advised not to drink the product if it appears or tastes unusual,” he said.
It is not the first time that the company has withdrawn concentrated Ribena products from the market.
In 2017, four Ribena concentrates were voluntarily recalled in Singapore, following a similar recall in Malaysia, after a faulty bottling machine “allowed air to enter bottles at random,” according to an alert issued by the Food and Agriculture Authority and Singapore Veterinary at the time.
As a result of the failure, it was possible that the affected bottles would spoil before the stated expiration dates, according to the alert.
