As airlines and airports around the world come up with novel ways to make money during the COVID-19 pandemic, Singapore’s Changi Airport offers people the opportunity to revive “The Terminal.” First, we had tourist flights to nowhere and then dinners aboard Airbus A380, and now we have airports that offer you the opportunity to spend the night in the terminal.
In case you didn’t know, the reference to “The Terminal” is to the 2004 film of the same name by Steven Speilberg starring Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Stanley Tucci. In the film, Hanks plays a man from Eastern Europe who gets stuck in New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport after being denied entry to the United States. While he cannot enter America, he cannot return home after a military coup in his home country and ends up living at the airport.
Changi Airport is rated the best
One thing’s for sure, and if you ever had to choose an airport to get stuck in, Singapore’s award-winning Changi Airport would be on most people’s first picks list. From November 20 to January 3, people will be able to spend the night at the airport, sleeping under the stars.
While most of us may have endured sleeping on uncomfortable benches or in a quiet corner while waiting for a flight, the Singapore airport experience is pure luxury. Called “Glampication in the Clouds,” airport guests will spend the night sleeping in a yurt on the highest floor of the airports with plush blankets and pillows.
Shiseido Forest Valley
For those who prefer a more open-air feel, the airport’s Shiseido Forest Valley is also open for overnight stays. Yurts of various sizes are available and can accommodate three adults or a family of four at Changi Airport. The yurts in the Shiseido Forest Valley are slightly larger and are suitable for four adults or two adults and three children. Both Singapore airport glamping experiences are priced at S $ 320 ($ 238) during the week and S $ 360 ($ 267) on weekends. Included in the ticket price are the following additional benefits:
- Changi Experience Studio Tickets (single day entry ticket) OR Manulife Sky Nets – Bouncing (single admission) https://simpleflying.com/singapore-changi-airport-connection-time/
- Canopy Park tickets (day ticket)
- Shining Christmas at Jewel (Shiseido Forest Valley Entrance)
- Jurassic Mile Dino Plush Toy
- Jewel Privilege pass for discounts on purchases
- Free parking
Toiletries are also included, and overnight guests can shower at YotelAIR or Changi Lounge, depending on their glamping location.

How about a Glam-picnic?
If staying overnight at the airport is not your thing, you can hang out at the airport during the day and experience a Glam-picnic. The airport provides tablecloths, cutlery, a cooler with ice and wine glasses, but you have to bring your own food and drink. Three-hour slots are available for S $ 160 ($ 119) during the week and S $ 180 ($ 134) on weekends.
While the sightseeing flights to nowhere were a good idea and the Singapore Airlines dinner in an A380 was a huge success, I’m not sure how popular glamping will be.
Does this sound like something you would like to do? If so, tell us why in the comments.
