Quan Yi Fong Addresses Aftermath Speculation With Addy Lee In Passionate Livestream, Clarifies Friendship With Him, Entertainment News

Rumors of sour celebrity relationships abound abroad, but one particularly hits close to home.

A recent report from the local Chinese newspaper Shin Min Daily News speculated that local TV host Quan Yi Fong may have disagreed with her best friend, famous hairstylist Addy Lee.

They noted that Addy, who is also a godfather to Yi Fong’s daughter Eleanor Lee, did not appear at Eleanor’s 21st birthday party. Nor did he send her birthday greetings on his social media. Finally, the publication noted that Addy did not follow mother and daughter on Instagram, and vice versa.

In response, Yi Fong held a rather emotional Facebook livestream (more on that later) and gave an exclusive interview to Lianhe Wanbao where she clarified that their friendship is still intact.

She said, “A friend is forever. We still have a good relationship.” The 46-year-old admitted that they have communicated less since they were busy, but “there is no malice, no discussion, no criticism” between the two.

Yi Fong also cleared the air about the conversation that Eleanor had her hair done with famous hairstylist David Gan and it may have caused some friction as David is known to be Addy’s rival.

“All these years, I’ve had a good relationship with David. This time, we quietly went to him to work as we were working with some international brands. I didn’t even post it on my social media. Go there just to do my hair. That would have been a real problem, that would have been a betrayal. But if it’s for Eleanor’s sake, I don’t think Addy would care, “he explained.

Regarding them being unfollowed on Instagram, she said that was a long time ago and Addy also started to decrease the number of people she followed. At one point, he wasn’t even following anyone.

Eleanor changed her last name to ‘Lee’ due to a fortune teller

In the interview, Yi Fong cleared up a ‘beautiful misunderstanding’ about Eleanor’s change of surname. While it was assumed that Eleanor took the last name ‘Lee’ due to her relationship with Addy, Yi Fong revealed otherwise.

She consulted a fortune teller who suggested that ‘Lee’ as a last name would help Eleanor as a celebrity. She said: “I wanted my daughter to be called ‘Quan’ but the fortune teller said it was too ‘heavy’ for her to wear. So the fortune teller chose ‘Lee’ and I was happy because it turned out to be Addy’s last name.”

However, he also revealed that the change is not official and that Eleanor still wears the name ‘Yu’ on her ID card, taking her last name from her biological father, local actor Peter Yu.

As for Addy, she declined to comment when Wanbao approached her.

AsiaOne also reached out to both parties for comment, but Yi Fong declined to be interviewed, while Addy did not respond.

Quan Yi Fong’s passionate live broadcast

The same night Shin Min’s article was published, Yi Fong took to Facebook in a 45-minute live broadcast to passionately broach the topic.

Her main point of contention is that the reporter did not attempt to contact her directly and instead chose to contact her manager, who said she should not have been a part of this. Since then, the livestream has been removed from Facebook due to a glitch, which also caused Yi Fong to lose several posts and videos that he posted in recent days.

In response, Shin Min released a statement to refute Yi Fong’s points, explaining that communicating with his manager has always been the process for obtaining celebrity dates and that he was given more than two hours to respond.
