The national water agency PUB is investigating an incident in which two young men were seen fishing illegally on the boardwalk in front of Marina Bay Sands early Thursday morning (May 7).

In response to inquiries, PUB said it is investigating the incident.

PUB told Stomp: “Fishing is illegal on the seafront as the waters are part of the Marina reservoir.

“There are prominent signs along the boardwalk to inform the public of this and CCTVs are installed to improve surveillance.”

Violators caught fishing in non-fishing areas and / or using live bait in reservoirs can be fined up to $ 3,000.

PUB also noted that all designated fishing areas in their reservoirs are currently closed during this period of circuit disruption.

He added: “To report any illegal fishing activity, or if anyone has information on the two youths, please call 1800-CALL-PUB so we can take this opportunity to educate them on responsible fishing and circuit breaker safety measures. “
