SINGAPORE – A full-time military man was sentenced to 21 months probation after he sexually abused a seven-year-old girl and used his mobile phone to film himself touching her.

The clip was found on Zachary Lim Shao Rong’s laptop when police investigated him for another upskirt crime.

Both crimes were committed while Lim was a polytechnic student.

The 20-year-old Singaporean was sentenced on Tuesday (November 10) after pleading guilty to one count of sexual abuse and insulting a woman’s modesty.

As part of your sentence, you must stay indoors from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each day and perform 40 hours of community service.

You are prohibited from using mobile phones, tablets or any device with connected cameras.

His mother and stepfather also received a $ 5,000 bond to ensure his good behavior.

The court heard that the first incident occurred on February 14, 2018.

Lim was on her way home around 5.15pm when she saw the seven-year-old girl and her friend at a fitness corner in Bukit Panjang.

He approached the victim and asked the girl if she would like to use the chin-up bar in the exercise area.

Lim lifted her to the bar and as she hung from it, he pulled out his cell phone and activated his camera.

He then sexually abused the girl while recording video before helping her down.

Assistant District Attorney V Jesudevan said Lim deleted the video from his phone after transferring it to his laptop.

At around 11:30 a.m. on July 5 last year, he decided to target a 31-year-old woman who was standing in front of him on an escalator at the Choa Chu Kang LRT station.

The DPP said: “The victim was alerted to the actions of the accused person when the phone contacted his thigh.”

The woman then grabbed Lim’s mobile phone and brought it to the control station.

The police were alerted shortly after.
