Power failure along the North-South, East-West, Circle lines

SINGAPORE – A continuous multi-hour power failure on the North-South, East-West and Circle lines has delayed commuters traveling during the late afternoon rush hour on Wednesday (October 14).

Transportation operator SMRT Corporation first announced at 7.16pm in two consecutive tweets that travelers should add 25 minutes to their trip if traveling between Woodlands and Jurong East, as well as between Queenstown and Gul Circle.

SMRT also later asked passengers to avoid Jurong East Station, saying that service between Queenstown and Tuas Link was also affected.

Later, the SMRT on its Facebook account said that the Circle Line was also hit by a power failure around 7:30 pm, with no train service between Serangoon and Harbourfront stations.

“Travelers were safely diverted from 8:00 pm. M., With our staff attending. Power along the Circle Line was restored at 8.40pm and train services progressively resumed, ”he said.

Free regular and shuttle bus services were made available at the affected stations.

Netizens on social media reported blackouts at various MRT stations, including Boon Lay, Yew Tee, and Choa Chu Kang.

Several also reported being trapped in stopped trains for over an hour and shared images of them descending to walk on the train tracks towards the station.
