SINGAPORE: SMRT said on Wednesday (December 16) that it made a police report against a traveler who “forced” his way onto a train with a non-folding bicycle.

In a Facebook post, the train operator said that an SMRT employee had tried to prevent a man with the bicycle from entering a train at Woodlands station around 7.10pm on Tuesday.

“The male commuter was unwilling to cooperate and broke into a train heading north,” SMRT said.

The man subsequently transferred to a west-bound train at Jurong East Station and left Pioneer Station at around 7:50 p.m.

“Since then, we have identified the passenger and made a police report,” SMRT said.

“For the safety and comfort of all travelers, we would like to remind everyone to observe regulations when bringing folding bicycles and personal mobility devices on board trains and buses,” added SMRT.

A video circulating online shows the man insulting an unknown traveler while his bicycle hangs from the train’s grab posts.

Only folding bikes and personal mobility devices (PMDs) can be loaded onto public transportation, in accordance with the guidelines posted on the Land Transportation Authority website.

In addition, folding bikes or PMDs brought to public transportation must not exceed 120cm by 70cm by 40cm when folded.
