SINGAPORE – Mailboxes in nine apartment blocks in Redhill and Lengkok Bahru were found smashed on Tuesday (October 13) morning.

SingPost said they were forcibly opened.

The affected blocks were blocks 55, 56, 57, 58 and 59 in Lengkok Bahru; Blocks 71 and 72 at Redhill Road and blocks 89 and 90 at Redhill Close.

Robin Goh, the group’s director of brand and communications, said an emergency response team was dispatched immediately and found the doors of some mailboxes ajar and showed scratches, dents and other signs of tampering.

But the main doors of the nine letterbox nests were closed and locked.

SingPost checks revealed that the vandalism likely occurred after a postman left the area at 1pm on Monday (October 12).

SingPost said its staff secured all mail within the tampered mailboxes and would deliver it to the doors of affected residents.

“Mail security is of the utmost importance to SingPost, and we take these violations very seriously. Any cases of vandalism and / or theft of a mailbox will be reported to the police promptly,” said Mr. Goh.

Police confirmed that a report has been filed and that investigations are continuing.

On September 11, five 18-year-olds were arrested for allegedly robbing Choa Chu Kang’s mailboxes and vandalizing them.
