Police investigate a group of 44 people drinking and singing in the Boon Lay Way industrial building

Police are investigating 44 people who gathered at an industrial building located along Boon Lay Way on Friday (January 1).

Police said in a statement that they received a report on the meeting at 1.20 a.m.

The group of 44 investigated includes 41 Singaporeans, a permanent resident of Singapore, a Malaysian and a Chinese national.

Police said in a statement that the group is being investigated for non-compliance with Safe Distancing Measures (SDM) under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulation 2020.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 44 people had allegedly gathered to socialize and that the venue is not licensed to provide public entertainment.

When the police arrived, they found a large group of 29 men and 15 women, between 17 and 34 years old, drinking, smoking and singing in an empty office.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Under the Public Entertainment Act, the crime of providing public entertainment without a valid license carries a fine of up to $ 20,000.

The police also advised the public to take the prevailing safe distancing measures seriously.

For non-compliance with the SDM under Covid-19 Regulations 2020 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order), violators can be imprisoned for up to six months, fined up to S $ 10,000, or both.
