SINGAPORE – The personal information of 2.8 million Eatigo accounts belonging to users in Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand has been stolen and made available for sale in an online forum.
In an email to customers on Saturday (October 31) seen by The Straits Times, the online restaurant reservation platform said the stolen information was illegally accessed more than 18 months ago and included names, email addresses and Telephone numbers.
“We were informed on October 30 that, along with other e-commerce platforms, we were the subject of a data security incident,” the company said.
“The password for your existing eatigo account is protected by encryption and therefore secure. We do not store credit card information in our system.”
News of Eatigo’s data breach comes just a day after e-commerce giant Lazada confirmed that personal information had been stolen from 1.1 million RedMart user accounts.
Both sets of information were made available for sale on the same website.
The information on Lazada stolen was also over 18 months old, but it is not known if the two incidents are related.
In its email, Eatigo said that it will collaborate with the relevant authorities on this matter and has established a support team that affected customers can contact with queries or concerns.
He also recommended that customers log in to their accounts and reset their passwords as a precautionary measure, and be alert to any spam emails requesting personal or confidential information.
ST has contacted the Personal Data Protection Commission and Eatigo for comment.
