Five of Manchester United’s rising young stars were promoted to first-team training on Monday amid a hectic holiday schedule for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men.
United He will play his fourth game in 10 days when he host the Wolves on Tuesday, with another three games in the next nine days.
Solskjaer is likely to switch teams after Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Leicester. A victory would put the Red Devils within two points of Premier League leaders Liverpool.
And on Monday, Solskjaer decided to give some of the club’s talented teen stars a chance to shine.
Exterior Facundo Pellistri, who joined from Peñarol on the day of the transfer deadline, was photographed training with United’s biggest stars.
Joining him were 16-year-old forward Shola Shoretire, Swedish forward Anthony Elanga, right-back Ethan Laird and defender Will Fish.
All five were called up after impressing for United’s Under-23s this season, as reported in the Daily star.
Elanga has appeared in every U-23 game so far this season, scoring four goals. The Swedish Under-17 international can play on both wings or as a center forward.
Pellistri has scored two goals for the Under-23s in Premier League 2, but has yet to try any high-level action.
Shoretire became the youngest player to appear in the UEFA Youth Cup at age 14. He has been described by U-18 coach Neil Ryan as “a really exciting player.”
Fish has passed through the ranks of the academy and was captain of the U16s last season. Laird, meanwhile, has been a regular in the U-23s and could be a backup for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Wan-Bissaka has missed United’s last two games, but was back in training on Monday and should start against Wolves.
Solskjaer hints at new deal with Cavani
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes veteran forward Edinson Cavani still has years at the top.
