Action for AIDS, Singapore (AfA) presented a Red Ribbon Award to respected opposition physician and politician Paul Tambyah for his contributions to HIV-related causes on Saturday (December 5).
The AfA Red Ribbon Awards are awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions over the years to raising public awareness of HIV / AIDS in Singapore and its associated issues.
AfA honors these individuals for their support to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV / AIDS and to encourage early testing and medical treatment to ensure normal and productive lives.
This year’s Red Ribbon Awards went to Professor Tambyah, Senior Manager of AfA (Coordinated Care, Donor and Volunteer Management) Mr. Anwar Hashim, and Senior Divisional Manager of AfA (Education and Testing) Mr. Terry Lim.

Professor Tambyah, a leading health expert, is a professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine of the National University of Singapore (NUS) and a senior consultant in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the National University Hospital (NUH).
Over the years, Professor Tambyah has contributed to raising awareness of HIV / AIDS in Singapore through his roles as president of the Asia Pacific Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infection and as a former member of the AfA executive committee.
He has also participated in the Singapore AIDS Conference for two decades, since 2000, and participated in the National HIV Prevention and Control Program in 2012.
AfA said in a social media post on Saturday: “This year’s Red Ribbon Awards go to Mr. Anwar Hashim, Mr. Terry Lim and Prof. Paul A Tambyah, for their many years of hard work contributing to HIV-related causes and serving society by connecting people with valuable resources. Congratulations and greetings, keep up the great work! “
Thanking AfA President Professor Roy Chan, Professor Tambyah replied on Facebook: “Thanks Roy for that nice date. Anwar and Terry do a fantastic job with the outcasts of our society. “
Added: “The end of the AIDS epidemic is in sight … we will get there.”
