Paul Pogba has apologized for the “stupid mistake” that saw Manchester United beaten at home to Arsenal and left the midfielder promising to make big improvements to his game.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s 100th game at the wheel ended in a disappointing 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford. It also left the Red Devils winless in their first four league games at home for the first time since 1972-73.
Additionally, he helped Arsenal end their 29-game winless Premier League run towards teams of the big six.
United were a shell of the team that beat RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
Left Solskjaer reflect on a “mentality problem” with his players and scold Pogba for his mistake.
It was the Gunners’ first league win at Old Trafford since 2006, and the first by a Big Six rival since January 2015. Pogba’s unnecessary challenge in the penalty area against Hector Bellerin proved to be the defining moment.
“We know it’s a bad performance,” the midfielder told the BBC. “I myself, I cannot expose a fault like this.
“I thought I would touch the ball but I didn’t. (I) cost us the goal today with the penalty.
“Like I say, details. We have to do better, the team, myself, starts with me.
“I felt like I touched him a bit, I knew he was in the area, he shouldn’t have given a penalty like that.
“Maybe I was a little out of breath, it made me make this stupid mistake. I’ll learn from that, I’m not the best defensively in the area, I can work on that. “
Solskjaer echoed PogbaThe view after a game that seemed ready to draw 0-0.
“Paul knows if he stands up and drags the kid … because he was coming out of the box. It’s a soft pen to give away, ”he said. “Those things happen.
“I know he touched it enough to give away a feather and that was against us. Paul raised his hand and knows he could and should have done better in that case.
“That was the difference between the teams today. It always seemed 0-0 to me ”.

Solskjaer regrets the lack of fighting spirit
Roy Keane was far from impressed by the performance of his old club. Talking to Sky sports, Keane was critical and said “there were no guys you wanted to be in the trenches with, guys you trust.”
Solskjaer, when informed of Keane’s comments, appeared to agree with the expert.
“Well, in the first half there were no tackles, no fights, you have to create an environment yourself.
“These games against Arsenal were always fierce, flying tickets.
“We didn’t have the tempo or intensity for that, absolutely. I was disappointed in the performance of the first half.
“In the second half we were better. Unfortunately, they got the penalty and we just couldn’t produce the answer. “
