Overload of cuteness when old SCDF fire hoses are repurposed as toys for Singapore Zoo animals, Digital News

Old fire hoses that are no longer suitable for firefighting operations have found new life among residents of the Singapore Zoo, and it’s turning out to be a terribly adorable Facebook post.

As part of its efforts towards environmental sustainability, the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) recently donated more than 90 unused fire extinguishing hoses to Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS), the second time the organization has done so.

The fire hoses, made of strong synthetic fiber with reinforced rubber covers, are said to be durable enough to withstand the teeth and claws of wild zoo animals.

As such, some of the hoses have been creatively repurposed as toys and food-dispensing toys for creatures like hawks and hyenas to keep them physically and mentally stimulated as they discover the food-filled puzzle boxes.

Otherwise, the hoses have been recycled as comfortable bedding for animals, improving living and exercise conditions for show dogs, binturongs and orangutans.

The Singapore Wildlife Reserves reopened the Singapore Zoo, Jurong Bird Park and River Safari in July after having been closed for nearly three months since the circuit breaker in April.
