One-year-old Singaporean girl among 21 new Covid-19 cases in S’pore, all imported, Health News & Top Stories

SINGAPORE – A one-year-old Singaporean girl traveling from India was among 21 new confirmed coronavirus cases as of Monday (March 29), bringing Singapore’s total count to 60,321.

All the cases were imported and were sending notices of admission or had been isolated upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said.

Among the newly announced cases, 20 were asymptomatic, including one year old, and were detected by screening and proactive surveillance, while one had symptoms.

There were no new cases in the community or in the workers’ bedrooms.

Imported infections included Singaporeans, permanent residents, and long- and short-term pass holders traveling from India, Myanmar, the Philippines, Bangladesh, and Turkey.

They also included a 34-year-old man who traveled from Malaysia to assist in police investigations, the Health Ministry said.

He added that the number of new cases in the community has risen from none in the previous week to two cases in the last week.

The number of unrelated cases in the community also increased from zero to two in the same period.

The Health Ministry added that among the 113 confirmed cases reported between March 23 and Monday, 44 tested positive in their serological tests, while 51 tested negative. Another 18 serological test results are pending.

With nine cases discharged on Monday, 60,116 have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 39 patients remain in the hospital, including one in critical condition in the intensive care unit, while 121 are recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 30 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December 2019, has infected more than 125 million people. More than 2.75 million people have died.
