St Luke’s ElderCare is investigating a complaint that an elderly woman in its Hougang facility was forced to wear a dirty vomit mask.

He said his elderly mother was not feeling well and had vomited after lunch, dirtying her mask.

He wrote: “The center staff after cleaning reused this dirty and dirty mask on it.

“When my mother helplessly told them that the mask was dirty, the staff told her it was fine and went ahead to reuse the mask.

“Can’t you just offer a clean mask for this poor old man, does a new mask really cost you so much?”

He added that hygiene when dealing with older people should be the “top priority,” especially during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

She alleged that on other occasions, staff at the center also left her mother in dirty diapers for hours, causing her to develop rashes.

He said: “I wish I could have arrived earlier to alleviate the suffering of my dear mother.

“I’m so sorry mom !!”

St Luke’s Eldercare addressed the incident in a statement on its Facebook page: “We are aware of a complaint and a news article circulating on social media platforms.

“The alleged incident involved our care staff allowing an elderly man to wear a dirty mask.

“We are investigating the matter and have contacted the family members involved.

“Any such treatment of an elderly person in our care would not be consistent with our values ​​of care.

“We will take action if we find any errors and will review our processes to see if they can be improved.

“We remain committed to providing the best care for our elderly.”
