If Bedok is mentioned, most of us would probably think of a glorious street vendor’s food or the “infamous” Bedok Reservoir. But a vacation at home? Most people won’t be thrilled about doing a heart staycay, but this is where we’ll prove you wrong.

From a treetop obstacle course and zip line to arguably the most Instagram-worthy public library in our Little Red Dot, we’ll show you why Bedok can provide you with a novel stay experience that’s anything but conventional.

And for history buffs, they can even take a trip back in time through the Bedok Heritage Trail. to know the old identity of this heart as a coastal fishing settlement and its colonial history.

Where to stay

There aren’t many options for a place to spend the night here, but Q Loft Bedok is more than decent to recharge after a busy day.

This nondescript hotel doesn’t look classy from the outside, but step into Q Loft Bedok’s rooms and you’ll see that they are clean and modern with no frills, with everything you need packed into a small room. There are many reviews that give Q Loft Bedok a thumbs up for its excellent staff service.

For a more comfortable holiday weekend, we recommend the double room or the triple room, the latter with a double bed and an additional single bed to accommodate a small family.

When you’re hungry, there is a supermarket nearby and several restaurants on the ground floor that are open late. Note that it is easiest to check in at Q Loft Bedok from Tanah Merah MRT station, so don’t rush when the train stops at Bedok MRT.

What to do

In addition to the excellent eat Here, Bedok also has something for nature lovers: an “oasis” in the forest north of New Bedok Town. The Bedok Reservoir has a reputation for being a haunted place among non-Bedokians, but for those who live here, it is a hotspot for water sports and fun family activities.

Spend the morning jogging the 4.3 km track, then rent a kayak at the PAssion WaVe exit here (Wednesday-Sunday only) and take your worries away.

Don’t forget to wear quick-drying clothing and strap sandals for a comfortable kayaking experience. Once you are tired, relax on the floating platform for a fantastic view of the Bedok Reservoir.

Adrenaline junkies (and Tarzan wannabes) should head to Forest Adventure, the only treetop obstacle course in all of Singapore. The Grand Course has 44 wobbly crossings that weaken your knees and arms like spaghetti, plus three zip lines to really get the blood pumping.

Reserve two and a half hours for your Forest Adventure trip. There is even a children’s course and a junior course with its own set of obstacles more suitable for the little ones. Make an online reservation before visiting them.

Sports are at the heart of Bedok, specifically, the sprawling Heartbeat @ Bedok complex. There’s an eight-lane indoor pool for your cardio workout and a hot tub for relaxing.

The little ones will also have fun in the playground by the pool. If swimming is not your thing, don’t worry, the complex is also equipped with badminton courts, a gym and a tennis center.

Next, head over to the Bedok side of East Coast Park, where you’ll find the Xtreme SkatePark. You will find many people on wheels from early in the morning. If you are looking to learn to skateboard or roller skating, this is the place to be. Did we mention that it is also the spiritual home of the Singapore Skateboarding Championship?

Further down is the Bedok jetty. The 250m long stretch is popular with the local fishing community, but even if you’re not a fisherman, the Bedok Jetty is the best place to jog or bike while enjoying the sea breeze.

Where to eat

No one would be fazed if you told them you came from Punggol or Woodlands just to eat in Bedok. This is a foodie’s paradise – you could spend all day gluttony and still not cover everything there is to offer.

We didn’t even cover a quarter of the good meals at Bedok while we were there.

Once you’ve got your fill of nonsense, grab some old-school desserts at nearby Lek Lim Nonya patisserie.

This store has been around since the 1960s and serves their best-selling colorful Kueh Lapis Nyonya. Also try their other Nyonya delicacies, such as Ondeh Ondeh Gula Melaka, pulut inti, kotoh ubi, and kueh salat. The prices are also cheap.

For dessert, have a cup with a slice of banana cake in Percolate. This laid-back spot also serves unique tea options like their Kukicha (Shizuoka green tea), Chai Milkshake, and Matcha Milo Dinosaur. If you’re still a little hungry, order a Fishcake Laksa or Hae Bee Hiam croissant sandwich for something out of the ordinary.
