The spectacular failure of the Nintendo Wii U was a massive financial mistake for Nintendo. It only sold 13 million units in its lifetime. It was not all bad.
It made use of motion tracking and motion as an input form for many games, which were later translated to the Nintendo Switch. And now, the company managed to emerge from the depths of the financial crisis, to have one of the best-selling consoles of all time.
Three years after its launch, the Switch sold 52 million units, beating sales of Xbox One, which is currently 46 million units.
But it’s still a long way from reaching the best-selling console of all time, the PlayStation 2, which sold a whopping 157 million units.
When the coronavirus pandemic, also known as COVID-19, occurred, and countries were forced to enter locks or movement controls, Switch consoles everywhere were taken away. This caused a worldwide shortage of consoles and video game stores began selling the Switch at a higher price.

But don’t worry players, things could get better soon. The Japanese video game company announced that they would increase the productions of their Switch consoles. Nintendo plans to build 22 million units in 2020, an increase of 20% over previous projections.
The lack of units was due to the closure of its manufacturing factory in China when the country went into closure.
But it seems like we won’t have to wait long for Switch prices to stabilize.
Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad told Business Insider: “We believe that in May, and especially in June, at the end of the second quarter, things will return to normal with supply. And that’s because right now, production is increasing. So we will start to see the effects of that in late May, June, certainly late in the second quarter. “
If you were looking to buy a Nintendo Switch but don’t want to pay the exorbitant fees, just give it time for prices and stocks to stabilize.
