NEW YORK – A nine-year-old from Texas topped Forbes magazine’s annual list of highest-paid YouTubers for the third year in a row, earning nearly US $ 30 million (S $ 40 million) this year.

Child influencer Ryan Kaji analyzes toys and games on his Ryan’s World YouTube channel, which has 41.7 million subscribers and 12.2 billion views.

Its most popular video, Huge Eggs Surprise Toys Challenge, has more than two billion views, making it one of the 60 most viewed videos on YouTube, according to the news site The Guardian.

In addition to the $ 29.5 million he made from his “unboxing” videos, where he takes toys out of their packages and goes through them, Ryan’s line of branded products sold at Target, Amazon and Walmart raised $ 200 million in sales last year.

He also signed a deal with the Nickelodeon children’s channel for a series called Ryan’s Mystery Playdate, Forbes reported.

The business magazine noted that the top 10 winners on its list made an estimated $ 211 million in total profit from June 2019 to June 2020, a 30 percent increase from the previous year. The coronavirus pandemic, he said, has boosted YouTube’s business, which has been a huge draw for people staying at home during the pandemic.

The second highest earner and newcomer to the list is Jimmy Donaldson, better known as Mr Beast, who earned an estimated $ 24 million. The 22-year-old digital celebrity is famous for his crazy and costly stunts, including flying a Toyota and setting off the world’s most expensive fireworks, a 180kg, $ 160,000 device. Since then, the 11-minute fireworks episode has been viewed nearly 60 million times.

Another child star, Anastasia Radzinskaya, known as Nastya, came in seventh on the list. The six-year-old Russian girl and her father play with Lego, do housework and explain viruses on their channel, which has more than 190 million subscribers and 39 billion views. He earned US $ 18.5 million during the year.

Other top earners include comedian David Dobrik, makeup guru Jeffree Star, and Mark Fischbach, known as Markiplier, who analyzes video games.

While it may be a good time to be a YouTube star, the pandemic casts a shadow even on them.

“I can’t wait until we can get back outside,” Ryan says, according to Forbes.
