SINGAPORE: While there will be no fireworks display in Marina Bay this year due to public health concerns, residents can expect fireworks at 11 locations in the heart on New Year’s Eve.
The screens, which are going virtual for the first time, are part of the end of the year community countdown programs organized by the Popular Association (PA).
This is to allow residents to participate in a “safe manner” amid the COVID-19 outbreak, PA said in a press release on Wednesday (December 23).
“As 2020 draws to a close and we approach Phase 3 reopening, we must remain vigilant, especially during the holiday periods,” PA said.
Fireworks displays will be held in Bedok, Bishan, Boon Lay, Geylang, Hougang, Jurong, Tampines, Tiong Bahru, Woodlands, Yew Tee and the Nanyang district in the West Coast Group Representation Constituency (GRC).
Screens will also be broadcast live on several of the 16 virtual engagements hosted by PA to usher in 2021.
Two of the countdown engagements, on Punggol Coast and Nee Soon South, will take place on December 27.
Two more, in Clementi and Telok Blangah, will take place on January 1.
The rest will take place on the night of December 31.
At many of the engagements, residents will be able to share their wishes for the new year, participate in games and contests, and enjoy live performances.
