SINGAPORE – Companies must establish safe management measures in the workplace to prevent Covid-19 from spreading again in the community even when local transmission numbers drop, the Ministry of Human Resources said on Saturday, May 9.
These are some of the measures.
1. Have a detailed monitoring plan
– Appoint safe management officers to establish safe distancing measures.
– Officers must ensure compliance, conduct regular checks, and keep a record of inspections.
2. Working from home
– The meetings must take place virtually.
– Conferences, seminars and social gatherings in the workplace, including group feeding, should be postponed or canceled.
3. Working from the office
– Those who cannot work from home must stagger working or rest hours.
– They must work in divided or shift teams, and cannot meet colleagues in other teams.
– Those on the same turn or team must be at least 1m apart and wear a mask at all times.
4. Checking temperatures
– On-site employee temperatures should be taken twice a day.
– Check respiratory symptoms among employees twice a day as well.
– Detection of temperature and respiratory symptoms for visitors when appropriate.
5. Verification of travel and medical history
– Employees and visitors must submit travel history statements before they are allowed to enter offices and workplaces.
– Confirm that they have not received a quarantine or isolation order, notice to stay home, or that they have not been issued medical certificates for respiratory symptoms.
– Declare that they are not a close contact of confirmed cases.
– Employers must keep records for at least 28 days.
6. Bad employees
– Employers must ensure that each employee visits only one clinic for check-ups.
– Otherwise, employees must inform the clinic of doctor visits in the last 14 days for any symptoms related to Covid.
– On-site employees who have visited a clinic must submit records of their MCs and provided diagnoses, only for Covid-19 related symptoms, to employers.
– They must also submit the results of their Covid-19 tests if they were taken.
– The evacuation plan must be prepared for bad or suspicious cases, as well as for other personnel on site.
7. Demarcate safe physical distances
– Employers must demarcate distances of at least 1m in offices or at workplaces.
– For example, they can install high barriers between workstations.
– Applies to common spaces such as pantries, meeting rooms and elevators.
8. Observe safe distancing in meetings.
– Limit the number of attendees to important meetings that cannot be postponed.
– Shorten the time necessary to meet.
9. Receive deliveries
– Safe distancing rules apply.
– Stagger the delivery times of different suppliers.
– Keep deliveries as short as possible.
10. Manage queues
– Show where customers and visitors should queue, according to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
– Install auto order options and contactless payment modes accordingly.
– Use CCTV or video analysis to ensure safe distance.
11. Follow-up of contacts
– Employers to encourage workers to download the TraceTogether contact tracking app.
– Limit access to the workplace to essential employees and authorized visitors.
– Use the national SafeEntry digital registration system to record all entrances and exits, including employees and visitors.
12. Have a clean workplace
– Common spaces, including elevators, pantries and visiting rooms, must be cleaned regularly.
– Shared machinery and equipment must be disinfected before being used by others.
– Toilets and hand washing areas to have soap and toilet paper.
– Hand sanitizers in elevator lobbies, security booths and reception areas.
