SINGAPORE: Registering in public places with TraceTogether could become easier and faster, if a new device under test at the Downtown East mall receives the green light.

Designed and built by Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG), SafeEntry Gateway aims to provide a “more seamless and convenient check-in experience” for TraceTogether users, who can avoid long lines to scan QR codes or their credit cards. identity. for SafeEntry check-in that is sometimes seen during rush hours at popular locations.

SafeEntry Gateway detects the TraceTogether app and active token users, and records visitor registrations by exchanging Bluetooth signals.

Token users only have to bring their tokens within 5-15cm of the device to scan, while those using the phone app will have to turn on their Bluetooth, open the app, and bring their phone closer to the device. A beep and light will activate when registration is successful.

The process only takes a few seconds and is similar to using an EZ-Link card on public transportation.
