SINGAPORE – A student from Nanyang Polytechnic was riding a public bus down 10 Ang Mo Kio Avenue when he used his mobile phone to record a video under a woman’s skirt.

Chan Jay Ko, now 19, pleaded guilty in district court on Tuesday (December 15) to one count of voyeurism.

The court heard that he was on SBS’s 45 service on January 21 when it saw the 19-year-old victim standing nearby.

He took out his mobile phone and used it to record a video under her skirt around 5.40pm

Chan was later captured and the police were alerted.

On Tuesday, defense attorney Harbajan Singh told the court that his client was a loner and had been under “severe stress.”

Singh also said that Chan is an honest person who admitted his crime immediately after he was caught.

Deputy Chief District Judge Seah Chi-Ling has requested a report to assess the teen’s suitability for parole.

He will be sentenced on January 26 of next year.

A criminal convicted of voyeurism can be imprisoned for up to two years and fined or punished.
