A week after the discovery of a severed electronic tag on his car confused a Grab driver, the culprit was finally located.
A 23-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday (October 27) after allegedly tampering with his electronic tag and fleeing on October 10, police and the Singapore Prison Service (SPS) said in response to inquiries from AsiaOne.
The man was serving his Supervisory Release (ROS) period after his release from a Reformation Training Center (RTC).
As part of the ROS regime, which includes restrictions such as curfews, an electronic tag had been attached to monitor his whereabouts.
SPS was alerted to the tampering with the electronic tag around 12:52 am on October 10.
They then made several attempts to reach the man through his mobile phone number and through his family, but were unsuccessful.
Subsequently, SPS filed a police report against the man that same day.
That day a police bulletin against the man and a revocation order were also issued to have him returned to the RTC.
The tag was later found on the car of a Grab driver on October 19, who returned it to police. He also took to Facebook to share the unusual finding.
Investigations into the alleged tampering with the man’s electronic tag are ongoing.
The man was indicted in court today (Oct. 29) for a separate crime of harassment on behalf of an unlicensed lender, authorities added.
