Mynah was seen eating pizza at a bakery in Waterway Point, allegedly a ‘frequent customer’, Singapore News

It seems the local wildlife has gotten more cheeky lately. Hot on the heels of a bread-grabbing monkey and a banana-eating bat is a pizza-loving mynah.

The feathery bun was seen perched on a pizza board placed behind an open pizza display at a Proofer Bakery store in Waterway Point on October 31.

In a video clip uploaded by Facebook user Shang Wei Chong, the bird can be seen pecking at the crumbs on the board, regardless of the fact that it was in broad daylight. He jumped away just as a staff member approached the pizza display, but the video disappeared before it was clear whether the thief had escaped.

However, what was more surprising than the bird’s audacity was the staff’s response to the incident, Shang wrote.

When he approached the bakery staff to inform them of the bird sighting, they allegedly told him: “This problem happened many times and it was also a feedback [sic]. But no action was taken [sic]. “

Shang added, “Imagine, some of us may be sharing food with the bird.”

He has since reported the matter to Proofer Bakery and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

Pigeon spotted in BreadTalk

Perhaps birds have developed a preference for air-conditioned eating places, just like humans.

Earlier today (November 4), a Redditor shared a video of a chunky-looking pigeon parading around a bread display case inside Eastpoint Mall’s BreadTalk.

While the screen has a plastic cover that protects the food, one netizen expressed concern about food safety and said it was “a bad idea to eat anything that is near the bird flapping its wings.”

And the customers in the store at the time might have thought the same thing: You were walking past the camera with prepackaged bread instead of one from the display case.

According to Redditor, staff removed a tray of bread after they were informed of the avian infiltrator’s actions.

Infected pigeons can transmit disease to humans through their droppings, which can affect people with lower immunity, according to the Animal and Veterinary Service.

AsiaOne has contacted Proofer, BreadTalk and the SFA for feedback.
