José Mourinho has admitted that Tottenham felt “fear” at one point of their Europa League win over Shkendija.

Tottenham is one step closer to the Europa League group stage by achieving a comfortable victory in the third qualifying round.

It means that now they just have to beat Maccabi Haifa in next week’s play-off to get to the groups.

However, not everything was easy, as Shkendija reached the level briefly in the second half. And Mourinho admits that the moment had him worried, although his substitutes helped produce the reaction he expected.

He said: “We didn’t play great but we did the job.

“In the first half we went 41 minutes without scoring and then we gave them space to play. In the second half, after our changes, I like to see the players come in and make an impact and the players that came in made a difference.

“We started very strong and we thought we were going to kill the game, but we didn’t. They gave us a difficult game and the fear we felt after the draw was fundamental for the team’s reaction and then it was difficult for them to contain our attack waves ”.

MOURINHO HIGHLIGHTS AN UNUSUAL SITUATION

Mourinho also spoke about an unusual moment before the match when his goalkeepers noticed that the goals were too small.

He explained: “Before the game it was a funny situation because my goalkeeper told me that the goal was small. I went to see and it was small.

“Goalkeepers spend all their time in them we know that.

“I immediately felt something was wrong and we managed to get the UEFA delegate in and he was 5 cm too small. We ask for goals of the right size. “
