José Mourinho revealed that his favorite team to watch is Aston Villa after his Tottenham team mercilessly dumped Leeds on Saturday.
Harry Kane and Son Heung-min equaled the Premier League record for most goal combinations in a season as they inspired Tottenham’s 3-0 victory.
Kane, who opened the scoring from the penalty spot, scored South Korea’s 100th goal for the club as the pair combined for the 13th time this season, matching the tally set by Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton at Blackburn in 1994-95.
They have been the history of the season for Spurs and are just four short of matching the total record of 36 set by Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard while at Chelsea.
Their unison here was timely as their contribution ended a four-game winless streak in the Premier League, with Toby Alderweireld adding a third shortly after the break.
It was the first time the Spurs had scored three goals in a league game since drawing 3-3 with West Ham in October, when the shackles were finally released after a month of leading.
Marcelo Bielsa’s men had their moments, they had 64% possession and they dot the Spurs goal with 16 shots, but they lacked the quality to look like winners.
Mourinho was satisfied with the result, but felt there was room for improvement.
Mourinho said BT Sport: “The three points are very important. I think we understood well how they could hurt us and how we could hurt them. In that aspect I am happy but I still think that we can, and we have to improve ”.
On the Harry Kane and Son Heung-min partnership, Mourinho added: “Of course the understanding is good and against Leeds it was important to have that ability in attack. They stay man-to-man, so if you stay static, you give them an easy job. That move from Harry Kane and Sonny into the final positions fitted in well.
“I think in the Premier League there are a lot of good players everywhere, even in clubs where you don’t think they can have great players. But I have to say that Sonny and Harry are doing special things this season.
“I want goals from other players and I want them to feel that they can express themselves. We had toby [Alderweireld] of course on set pieces and players in other positions to score. We have players from other positions appearing in final positions, which is what I want from them ”.
Mourinho then revealed his affection for Villa.
“When we play, the people who are considered the six best people say that easier games come, but I, of course, I don’t think so. Leeds are tough and Aston Villa is my favorite team in the Premier League right now. I enjoy watching them, they have good players and very well trained. This is the next thing ”, added the boss of the Spurs.
On canceling games for Covid-19: “I go back to the initial rules of if you have 14 players available, you have to play. I see no other reason not to.
“I think all clubs do their best for their players to keep everyone safe, but then there are moments in private life that you can’t control. You can’t blame everyone, so we have to move on. If someone has something positive, we have to play ”.
Proud son
Scorer Son also revealed his joy after another good performance.
“It was a really tough game,” Son said. BT sport. “We have worked very hard and created opportunities from the beginning of the game.
“Having a clean sheet and winning 3-0 is a fantastic way to start the new year.”
Son was proud of scoring a century of goals for Spurs.
He said BT Sport: “Obviously I couldn’t wait. I am very happy and very grateful to my colleagues and to all those who have supported me.
“It didn’t come automatically just for me. I needed a lot of help for this great achievement and I am very proud ”.
